The Moon

The moon is chasing me across the snowdrifts

Up in the sky a pirate in her sea

Her sails are trimmed she's half herself at midday

Against the sky of blue she's She's hard to see

In her diminished sights she yearns to find me

I who made her captain of my ship

I followed her across the raging waters

And thought she'd keep me safely in her grip

I followed in her moonlit path of silver

That lit night and filled my heart with hope

And then her face turned black among the cloudbanks

And I left to find my dreams in smoke

Since then we've rarely met in private moments

I see her and I never stop to smile

For what she promised in her robes of silver

Faded away at dawn with every mile

Shining all so bright

The moon has followed me throughout the sky

The moon will follow me until I die

Upon the sea her light shines on forever

On every tide the moon sails on her way

And though I often feel she has betrayed me

I see her from the corner of my day

I know we’ll never part while I am dreaming

Through the love and death that is our path

I know she sees me here not far from heaven

And will be here to guide me till the last
